Electric Dirt Bike Second Test

First test in the dirt with 7 cells, sealed lead acid batteries. We ran the bike for 7 miles on this track before the batteries went flat. The gearing is a bit too low and when fully charged it is impossible to keep the front end down if you punch the throttle. We will increase the gearing and make some minor mechanical improvements before testing again. The bike currently weighs 290 lbs with these heavy batteries.

fuck that shit get the 4stokes on!!1

@l07smitty totally agree, why the fuck would you put up a video of an electric bike that has a 4 stroke pacin it? I watched the video to see how quiet they were. Two thumbs down on this video, hopefully they are smarter at building bikes than videos

  6. imaretardeieio says:

or you could have a sweet honda your choice

  7. suzukiholdenman says:

    It’s a prius bike

@TheSolarmike the only up side for an electric motor over an engine is you dont have to worry about rev’s but you have to throw weight in the mix this bike is probably just over 100 pounds and it dose 45mph? a little 50cc pit bike will do the same and it has less weight but my point is (i dont anything about motors but i know my way around an engine) yeah maybe one day electric will do some damage but not now maybe 8 to 10 years or so

useless video!! the other bikes just totally ruined this video and made it pretty pointless!!!!!!!!

@smorrismlbco this looks like metcalf some trails and a small but ridable motocross track i lived in san jose for like 6 months

  12. hondacr60r says:

why the fuck cant there be a charging system something that runs well the bike is in motion to keep a constant charge from full

I am planning to use Altair nano lithium titanate batteries in an active parallel arangment with Maxwell ultracapacitors coupled to a 20 kw custom neodymium iron boron hub motor that recharges of off sunpower a300 cells in the form of the 315 watt module. Wait for this beast! It I’ll blow a cr500 away!

  14. TheSolarmike says:

Anyone who thinks electric is dumb or weak is just plain stupid. Soon electric will beat any Gas powered machine

  15. SuperGaryOak says:

    Holy crap!

  16. Natesmodelrailroad says:

Did you keep the transmission on it, or is it just a straight chain drive from the motor?

  17. LOLDISNEYLAND says:

This is awesome. Good work on this nice trail bike. Electric is great when you want to ride a trail on restricted government land and don’t want to make a lot of noise lol.
A mate of mine rides a land speed electric bike called the Catavolt. At this stage, the engineers and riders are keeping it safe with the setups. But unleashed, these bikes are potentially extremely fast.

Why don’t u just take the dirt out of dirt bike and call it Yankeebike. Dumbest idea ever

KTM was supposed to come out with one this year ,but the economy put that on hold. Is that Gorman?

  20. warlockboyburns says:

LiFepo4 batteries are half the weight of lead acid

  21. unclesonnyonutube says:

one guy had a treadmill motor as a generator rigged to a freespin with a kick start lever….and when he was sitting still he would pump it 10-15 times to recharge the battery.
it seemed to work pretty well and seemed almost effortless. his setup was similar to this but it was an older dirtbike with no fairings.
it wasnt pretty looking but it worked just as well as this and had the recharge kicker.
I cant seem to find the video though, if anyone runs across it send it to me.

  22. Tweekin0ut says:

throw lithium-ion batteries in there, they’ll save you a ton of weight and last longer.

  23. daedalx says:

Add solar regeneration and you have the perfect bike.

2:13 “the sound of roost”, new stuff for me…

  25. emepe56 says:

yeaaaaa this is the future!! keep it up!! I love the sound of an 2-stroke or a 4-stroke, but after some time around electrics, the combustion engines seem anoying!… toilet paper was a “dumb idea” whe it was invented…
